The true meaning of human fatherhood is under attack in our contemporary society. Sadly many people today have negative experiences of fatherhood. Because of the weakness of the human condition we have imperfect dads. Our only perfect father is the eternal father who is the source of all things. Human fatherhood is a reflection of the eternal fatherhood. We must never confuse our own human weaknesses to be our vision of God. Although some dads may be abusive because they are sinful, God, who is not sinful is never abusive. God is love itself. To sanctify human fatherhood dads should look to the eternal father for guidance and as a model. There are of course many great and holy dads who deserve to be recognized for the extraordinary things they do for their families. Fatherhood compliments motherhood and the two are necessary for a family. We should pray for all fathers who fall short in their vocation of being a dad. As Christ has taught us we must love the sinner and hate the sin. May God bless all of our dads living and dad.
