This Saturday (May 30) we celebrate the Feast of St. Joan of Arc. St. Joan of Arc is the patroness of France, soldiers, and rape victims. St. Joan of Arc was a young peasant woman who had little education. She received a message from God exhorting her to fight the British and liberate Catholic France from the Protestant British Rule. St. Joan of Arc teaches us the importance of obedience to the Church, to God, and to live a life of holiness. For her, being holy was more important than prestige and power. She could have easily rejected God and the Catholic Church in order not to be executed yet she refused to submit to the forces of darkness and remained obedient until death to our Lord. St. Joan of Arc is a model for us today, especially with Christians being persecuted in the Middle East, she reminds us of the importance of liberty and fidelity to the Lord. St. Joan of Arc, please pray for us.
